Canyon Photo Album

Our Photo Album is growing - we'll try to share pictures of our events ... do you have some to add? Send a note to our Webmaster -- we'll arrange to get them from you and add them to the Album. Enjoy ...!

Dramatic Canyon Photos - One of our neighbors Jamie Wachtel took several images of the Canyon on one of our "low clouds and fog" mornings, with some dramatic results ... thanks for sharing, Jamie!
Emergency Preparedness Class - Our Emergency Preparedness Team invited Red Cross Instructor Erin Huey to conduct a class in preparing your home for an emergency. It was an eye-opener, to say the least ... Erin was so thorough that Susan truly wished she had volunteered Stacy's home for the class instead of her own!
Hallowe'en Party - Thank you all so much for your participation in the 1st Hallowe'en Trick or Treat Party! It was so great to see all the kids in costumes (and most of you too!) What a special way to celebrate Halloween, and to keep it safe and fun for the kids. Thank you parents and neighbors for showing up and for all the donations you made, whether it was your time, money, food or drink.
3rd Annual Block Party 10/18/09 - Over 300 people attended the party, plus Fire Station 97, the Rangers of Mountains and Rec, and the Audobon Society folks! It was great watching neighbors greeting old friends and making new ones. It's also fun to see how the kids have grown in a year AND how many brand new, nearly new, and soon-to-debut children there are!

DWP Demos Electrical Safety - Our Emergency Preparedness Team invited Matt Woodson and Mark Vanvakaris from the DWP to give a demonstration of safety around electricity ... about 35 Members saw and heard and smelled Electricity!

Feed Our Cops - The 4th annual summer Sunset Cruiser Taskforce is in full swing! This brings together manpower from LAPD/Hollywood, LAPD Traffic Motorcycle Division, CHP, and the Sheriff's Department to patrol the Sunset Strip during the summer weekend nights when crime in the area skyrockets. As a result, there has been a consistent decline in crime and an increase in DUI arrests over these 3 years. Every Friday night at 7:30 at BofA on Sunset.

LAPD at Safety Committee Meeting - LAPD Hollywood Captain Bea Girmalla and our Senior Lead Officer Ralph Sanchez came to a special Safety Committee Meeting to discuss the problems and issues we face here in Nichols Canyon

Second Annual Block Party (2008) - Over 300 Members and Families came to our Second Annual Block Party. Sunshine, games, silent auction, LAFD Engine 98, music, and Kai's food - even more fun than last year!

Nichols Canyon Evacuation Drill - Many members of our Association helped the LAFD organize the Great 2008 Evacuation of Nichols Canyon - over 500 people checked in at the evacuation center! Five of our Members who are graduates of the LAFD CERT program also helped Fire and Police coordinate the drill ...

Upper Nichols Canyon Food Drive - In less than 6 hours at 6 markets we collected more than 8000 pounds of groceries! The goods were divided between food pantries serving Venice, Hollywood and the Valley. As with our Holiday Clothing Drive the results were far beyond what anyone was expecting.

Neighborhood Clothing Drive - The rainy December Saturday didn't stop our Association Members - a mountain of much-needed clothing was donated to PATH ...
